Who can participate?
Only graduates of the Psychology, Social Services and Psychological Counseling-Guidance departments, psychiatric nurses and students in the final year of their undergraduate studies and those continuing their graduate programs in related departments can participate in the training.
What kind of an approach is positive psychotherapy?
Positive Psychotherapy is a short-term dynamic psychotherapy approach, with a humanistic perspective. It was founded in Germany in the late 1960s by Prof. Dr. Nossrat Peseschkian. The World Association for Positive Psychotherapy (WAPP) is a member organization of the European Association of Psychotherapists (EAP). It is a method whose effectiveness has been proven by scientific research.
A two-stage training is required to obtain the title of positive psychotherapist. This training includes theoretical courses, as well as patient follow-up under supervision and the therapist candidate’s own therapy process. Basic training lasts 200 hours. At the end of basic training, the title of ‘Positive Psychotherapy consultant’ is obtained. Advanced training must be completed for the title of positive psychotherapist.
Positive Psychotherapy Basic Training
In the Positive Psychotherapy basic training program, the basic concepts and techniques of Positive Psychotherapy are given to the student. While theoretical information is given in the courses, the practical use of this information is mainly provided through role plays and small group studies.
An effective psychotherapy training has 3 important parts: theoretical training, the therapist candidate getting to know himself, the therapist candidate following his first cases under the supervision of an experienced therapist during the training. In this training program, in addition to the presentation of theoretical knowledge, the person uses the information to get to know himself with the exercises done during the training, and the discussion of information and techniques on the cases brought by the participants and the cases presented by the faculty members is provided. In this way, theoretical knowledge ceases to be an abstract set of concepts and gains a practical value that the participant can use to get to know himself and apply on the cases.
To emphasize briefly, in this training program, the aim is to show the basic concepts and techniques of positive psychotherapy to the participants, to have the opportunity to apply this information with the exercises done during the training and to gain awareness about their own personality structures during this process, and to acquire techniques and an effective approach that they can easily apply while working with their patients.
