What is Positive Psychotherapy?
Positive Psychotherapy is a short-term dynamic psychotherapy approach with a humanistic perspective. It was developed in Germany in the late 1960s by Prof. Dr. Nossrat Peseschkian.
The World Association for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy (WAPP) is a member of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).
Its effectiveness has been scientifically proven.
To obtain the title of Positive Psychotherapist, a two-stage training program is required. This includes theoretical lessons, supervision-based patient work, and the therapist candidate’s own therapy process.
The Basic Training consists of 200 hours.
Upon completion, participants receive the title of Positive Psychotherapy Consultant. To become a certified Positive Psychotherapist, advanced training must also be completed.
Basic Training in Positive Psychotherapy
The Basic Training Program provides participants with the core concepts and techniques of Positive Psychotherapy. While theoretical knowledge is taught, the emphasis is on its practical application through role plays and small group work.
Effective psychotherapy training consists of three main components:
-
Theoretical education
-
Self-exploration of the therapist candidate
-
Supervised clinical practice with first cases
In this program, participants are encouraged to use theoretical knowledge for self-awareness exercises while also discussing real cases—both their own and those presented by trainers. This way, theory becomes practical, applicable knowledge rather than remaining abstract.
In short, this training aims to:
-
Introduce participants to the basic concepts and techniques of Positive Psychotherapy
-
Provide opportunities for practicing these techniques during training exercises
-
Help participants gain self-awareness regarding their personality structures
-
Equip them with practical tools and effective approaches they can easily apply with their clients
The training will be conducted by Prof. Dr. Ebru Tansel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Ergün, official trainers of the World Association for Positive Psychotherapy (WAPP).
