POSITIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING

What is Positive Psychotherapy?

Positive Psychotherapy is a short-term dynamic psychotherapy approach and has a humanistic perspective. It was found in Germany by Prof. Dr. Nossrat Peseschkian in the late 1960’s. The World Association of Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy (WAPP) is a member organization of the European Association of Psychotherapists (EAP). It is a psychotherapy method whose effectiveness has been proven by scientific research. In order to receive the title of Positive Psychotherapist, a two-stage training, namely Basic Education and Further Education, is required. This training includes theoretical courses as well as patient follow-up under supervision and the therapy candidate’s own therapy process. Basic training takes 200 hours, advanced training takes 810 hours. At the end of the basic training, the title of “Basic Consultant of Positive Psychotherapy- Positive Psychotherapy Basic Consultant” is received. Advanced training must be completed for the title of ‘positive psychotherapist’. The training is given by the trainers of the World Association of Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy (WAPP). CYPRUS Positive Psychotherapy Center is affiliated to the Cyprus Mental Health Institute approved by the TRNC Ministry of Education.

Positive Psychotherapy Training Program

Basic concepts and techniques of Positive Psychotherapy are given to the students in the Positive Psychotherapy basic education program. While theoretical information is given in the teaching of the lessons, the use of this knowledge in practice is mainly provided by role plays and group work.

An effective psychotherapy training has 3 important parts: theoretical training, the therapist’s self-knowledge, the therapist candidate’s follow-up of the first cases under the supervision of an experienced therapist during the training. In this training program, besides the presentation of theoretical knowledge, it is ensured that the information is used in order to get to know oneself with the exercises performed during the training, the cases brought by the participants and the information and techniques to be presented by the lecturers are discussed. In this way, theoretical knowledge ceases to be an abstract set of concepts, and attains a practical value that the participant can apply on self-knowledge and cases.

Briefly, in this training program, it is aimed that the participants have the opportunity to apply this knowledge with the exercises performed during the training by showing the basic concepts and techniques of positive psychotherapy. In addition, in this training process, it is aimed that the trainees gain awareness of their own personality structures and acquire an effective approach and techniques that they can easily apply while working with their patients.
